Try the popup's Start annotating button on a normal HTTPS page. Chrome blocks internal pages. Reload the extension if it was updated.
Use the toolbar's Download control and attach the PNG manually. Check browser clipboard permissions and test in a supported paste target.
Press Escape or use the toolbar Close control. The overlay should be removed and the live page restored. If it is stuck, reload that tab.

Chrome controls the global shortcut assignment. Tool shortcuts apply only while the annotation overlay is open.

FastMarkup does not upload it. The app you paste into handles the image under that app's own terms.
The extension is designed to map annotations to the captured image resolution. The full cross-site, zoom, and high DPI acceptance matrix is still pending.
